MORAb-048 is an investigational, fully human, IgG monoclonal antibody that targets Staphylococcus enterotoxin B (SEB), one of several enterotoxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus that has the potential for use as a biological weapon against civilian or military populations. SEB is considered to be a superantigen that can non-specifically stimulate T cells and cause a massive release of cytokines, potentially leading to toxic shock and death. SEB has also been determined to be an active agent in other severe infectious diseases. MORAb-048 is being investigated in collaboration with scientists at United States Army Medical Research Institute and is supported by the Department of Defense and the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
