Morphotek Inc. announced today that William D. Claypool, MD, has been appointed to its Board of Directors "We are delighted to welcome a person with Bill’s management and pharmaceutical product development experience to Morphotek's Board," stated Nicholas C. Nicolaides, Ph. D., President, and Chief Executive Officer of Morphotek. "His significant clinical development, regulatory and industry experience will add tremendous value to Morphotek as the company progresses its antibody pipeline into the clinic. Dr. Claypool is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He performed his medical residency and pulmonary medicine fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. After serving on several medical school faculties, he began his career in clinical research for the Pharmaceutical Industry. He joined SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals in 1991 as a Vice President, initially of the Cardiopulmonary Therapeutic Unit, and subsequently the Inflammation and Tissue Repair Therapeutic Unit and then for all North America Clinical R&D and Medical Affairs. From 1998 to 2001 he served as SVP and Director of Worldwide Clinical Development and Medical Affairs for SmithKline Beecham, responsible for global clinical drug development, including clinical statistics and data management. Dr. Claypool left SmithKline Beecham to become the CEO of Phoenix Data Systems, a service and technology company that collects and processes clinical data for the Pharmaceutical Industry. In addition to his Board duties at Morphotek, Dr. Claypool serves as a member of the Board of Directors of ViroPharma.
