Morphotek Announces Appointments To The Board Of Directors

Morphotek Inc. announced today the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors. Appointed to the Board were John H. Kim, M.D. of Burrill & Company, Enrico Petrillo, M.D. of CB Healthcare Ventures and David K. Stone of Applied Genomic Technology Capital (AGTC) Funds. They join Morphotek directors: Allan L.D. Bedwick, private investor, David Joseph, Chairman of Orthovita, Nicholas C. Nicolaides, Ph.D., President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Science Officer of Morphotek, and Philip M. Sass, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Morphotek.

Dr. Kim, is a Managing Director of Burrill & Company. He is focused primarily on the management of Burrill & Company's venture capital funds and oversees selected advisory engagements. Dr. Kim joined Burrill & Company from Goldman, Sachs and Company where he was an equity research analyst covering the medical technology industry. He also has experience as a practicing physician and was on the clinical faculty of the University of Illinois School of Medicine. Dr. Kim received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the Honors Program in Medical Education at Northwestern University. He also received an M.B.A. with Distinction from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Palmer Scholar. Dr. Kim currently serves on the Board of Directors of GeneFormatics, Odyssey Pharmaceuticals, Xerion, Rejuvenon, Sagres Discovery, and Corus Pharma.

Dr. Petrillo is a General Partner of CB Health Ventures, L.L.C. Dr. Petrillo joined CB Health Ventures after serving at Fletcher Spaght, Inc. as Senior Consultant from 1984 to 1996 and as Partner and Head of Healthcare Commercialization from 1991 to 1996. Fletcher Spaght is an international strategic management-consulting firm specializing in research centers and emerging growth companies in the healthcare, software, communications and Internet industries. Dr. Petrillo has advised clients in the pharmaceutical, information technology, biotechnology, medical services and device industries. He has worked with numerous venture capital and private equity firms and their investee companies and has been a key advisor for new ventures and technology to major research centers. He was involved in the creation of several new healthcare companies based upon breakthrough technologies. Dr. Petrillo received his B.S. degree from Tufts University and M.D. from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed internship, residency, and fellowship training in General Internal Medicine at Mt. Auburn Hospital (Harvard Medical School) and serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center. He presently serves as a Director of U.S. Genomics, Inc., Spherics, Inc., Expressgen, Inc., and was a venture investor in eBenX and Board participant in Exact Sciences and XCare.net.

Mr. Stone is a Founding Partner of AGTC Funds and a member of the Investment Committee. He is also an Advisor/Partner to NewcoGen Group. Previously, Mr. Stone was an independent biotechnology analyst and consultant with Liberty Tree Advisors, LLC. A veteran of Wall Street, he followed the biopharmaceutical industry for nearly ten years. Until January 1999, he was a Managing Director at Cowen & Company, now SG Cowen Securities Corporation, a leading investment bank focused on healthcare and high-technology companies. As head of Cowen's biotechnology team, he expanded the firm's active research coverage from ten companies to over 30 and built its roster of biotechnology investment banking clients from one to more than 25. Mr. Stone began his biotechnology career in 1983 at Genetics Institute, Inc. (now a division of American Home Products), where he spent six years as a project manager and communications director. This early industry experience gives him an insider's perspective on the unique opportunities and risks inherent in biotechnology research, product development and corporate strategy. He is a frequent speaker at industry and investor conferences. Mr. Stone earned his B.S. in Microbiology from Colorado State University in 1979 and his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1983. Mr. Stone is a director of Antigen Express, AnVil Informatics, Genome Therapeutics and Hypnion, Inc.
