January 21, 2002
Morphotek Inc. announced today that David R. King, Esq., has been appointed to its Board of Directors.
Mr. King has spent most of his career at Morgan Lewis & Bockius (MLB), LLP, one of the country's largest and most prominent law firms, where he created and was a leader of the venture capital and emerging business practice. During his tenure at MLB, he specialized in representing life science companies, venture capital firms and underwriters of life sciences companies, in addition to his active involvement in managing the firm.
"David has extensive knowledge of and experience in the biotechnology industry," stated Nicholas C. Nicolaides, Ph. D., president, chief executive officer, chief scientific officer and co-founder of Morphotek. "His career has focused on helping biotechnology companies grow and develop into successful pharmaceutical companies, and we know David will add tremendous value to Morphotek as a director of the company."
Mr. King received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971, and his law degree from the Harvard Law School in 1974. In 2000, Mr. King withdrew as a partner of MLB to become CEO of Principia Pharmaceutical Corporation, a biotechnology company that develops engineered therapeutic proteins and peptides with increased stability and efficacy. Principia was subsequently acquired by Human Genome Sciences, Inc. In 2001, Mr. King became president of Delsys Pharmaceutical Corp., a drug delivery company that was recently acquired by Elan Corporation, a leading worldwide specialty pharmaceutical company. He is a director of 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and a member of the Advisory Board of the Snider Entrepreneurial Center of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also on the board of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Association, and serves as co-chair of its annual symposium.
