February 2, 2002
Morphotek Inc. announced today the appointment of William Heilman, Ph.D., M.B.A., as Vice President of Business Development. Dr. Heilman has held a variety of positions in major pharmaceutical and agrochem companies, including American Home Products (AHP), one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies. While at AHP, Dr. Heilman was responsible for evaluating and licensing new technology and the management of early stage pharmaceutical and agrochem product development. Prior to his tenure at AHP, Dr. Heilman held the position of Director of Licensing at American Cyanamid, where he was responsible for worldwide technology acquisitions and strategic endeavors for early-stage pharmaceutical and agrochem products. Preceding his tenure at American Cyanamid, Dr. Heilman was Licensing Manager at the FMC Corporation where he was responsible for evaluating early-stage agrochemical leads for licensing and acquisition. During his career, Dr. Heilman has negotiated and executed more than five hundred license, technology transfer and option agreements worldwide for agrochemical and pharmaceutical products, leads and enabling technologies. Dr. Heilman received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from Ohio State University and his M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University, OH.
"Bill adds tremendous value to our management team because of the breadth of his background in drafting and negotiating licensing agreements in both the pharmaceutical and agriculture arenas," said Nicholas C. Nicolaides, Ph.D., President and CEO of Morphotek. "His twenty years of Business Development experience in these two disciplines will be invaluable as Morphotek continues the rapid expansion necessary to meet our corporate goals and to further our product development objectives. His extensive background in licensing will help Morphotek secure a number of contracts currently under negotiation with potential corporate partners. Furthermore, Bill's network in both the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries will be important for identifying additional opportunities with organizations for the co-development of proprietary host organisms to generate commercially valuable products."
